Full arch restorations are only required if you have lost a full arch (upper teeth or lower teeth) or both arches of your teeth. This option is also ideal for patients who have multiple teeth that have been damaged, or if teeth have decayed and deteriorated to such an extent that they cannot be fixed with other restorative treatments.
Usually, full arch restorations are required for people who suffer from advanced periodontitis, and have lost most or all of their teeth. Patients who have numerous decayed teeth may also opt for full arch restorations.
Finally, full arch restorations are often the best choice for restoring your smile if you have been in a serious accident, or if all of your teeth have been irreversibly damaged.
The primary reason that full arch restorations are the last resort for restoring your teeth is that all remaining teeth in your mouth must be extracted. If you are having both arches of teeth replaced, all remaining teeth must be pulled, even if they are healthy.
So, before you can have your restoration placed, you will need to have all of your remaining teeth extracted. You may also need jaw surgery, such as an alveoloplasty, to ensure that your jawbone is smooth, and will provide proper support for your dental restoration.
Dr. Sarah S. Barker will discuss this process with you during your consultation, to ensure that you know what to expect. If you’re in Apex, Cary, New Hill, Holly Springs, contact us for a consultation right away.
At Cardinal Family Dentistry, we offer both traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures.
Traditional dentures sit on your gum line and are held in place by friction (and dental adhesive, in some cases). They are affordable and versatile, but tend to shift over time, and will eventually need to be replaced.
Implant dentures, on the other hand, use 4-6 dental implants to support a denture which is permanently attached to your mouth. These dentures look and feel natural, and can last a lifetime. While implant-supported dentures are more invasive and costly up front, they can last a lifetime with proper care.
At your consultation at Cardinal Family Dentistry, Dr. Barker will help you understand benefits of both treatments, and understand which one is right for you.
Full arch restorations allow you to eat, speak, and chew normally, even if you have lost all of your teeth. They are also very cost-effective, as all of your natural teeth can be replaced at once. Finally, you’ll be able to enjoy your new smile right away, because your first, temporary set of dentures can be provided to you immediately after your teeth are extracted.
